The hunter becomes the hunted on the Island of Doctor Lucky! The award-winning Cheapass classic Kill Doctor Lucky gets a tropical spin in this new stand-alone board game, available as an add-on through the Girl Genius: The Works Kickstarter campaign.
You’re still playing bloodthirsty enemies of that despicable philanthropist Doctor J. Robert Lucky; but this time, you’re trying to kill him on Isla Fortuna, his mysterious tropical island. Isla Fortuna is much more dangerous than Lucky Mansion, so you’ll be dodging monsters and traps the whole time you’re there.
The Island of Doctor Lucky takes a few of its rules from Doctor Lucky’s Mansion that is Haunted, a supplemental game board that eschewed the traditional sight lines of the original game in favor of a simple “if you can move to it, you can see it” rule. This rule helped the ghosts in the haunted expansion move through walls and ceilings, and it now helps the adventurers on Isla Fortuna move from one region to the next.
You can still attempt murder the old fashioned way, by finding Doctor Lucky alone in a place where no one can see you. Or, you can take advantage of the new Hazard cards to hit him from anywhere else on the map! A Hazard card is not usually as strong as a murder attempt, but it gives you a faster movement for the rest of the game. What’s more, you can also throw Hazards at players!
Doctor Lucky’s Island pet is Javier the Panther, who has the same abilities as the cat from the core game. You can’t see out of a space with the Panther in it, because you’re too busy watching the Panther! We’ll let you decide if that’s because of his cuteness or his dangerousness. Or both.
The Island of Doctor Lucky will be illustrated by the talented trio of Israel Evans, Nate Taylor, and BJ Becker. Israel gave us the character art for Get Lucky and the new 19.5th Anniversary Edition of Kill Doctor Lucky. Nate is coloring all the cards for Girl Genius: The Works! You might also recognize Nate’s work from Button Men and some of our limited edition Pairs decks. BJ Becker is our very own Doctor Lucky himself, and he’s providing art for the Weapon and Hazard cards.
The Island of Doctor Lucky will be available in stores in August. Alternately, if you do not have a friendly local game store, you can purchase it as an add-on to the Girl Genius: The Works Kickstarter campaign. Girl Genius: The Works will fulfill in September, so the Kickstarter campaign will not be the fastest way to get it, but it may be the most convenient.
